The theme of this week for me is do hard things and master the basics. Bailey and I have talked a lot about doing things that make us uncomfortable, we want to live in the uncomfortable this year. I overthink work and life. I want optimize everything I do at the gym, so much so that I have forgotten about doing the basics. I am always wanting to add new programs or go in a different direction instead of mastering what we are currently doing, which could be improved a lot! As we have been building our nutrition program and trying to make the gym better. We find ourselves more and more needing to work on the basics. The basics aren't sexy or cool, but they need to be mastered, and for me they are hard work. The basics of my job are, make regular contact with all our members, actually follow up with people who have shown interest in our program, coach really good classes and help our coaches improve their coaching, posting cool shit online. Basic for someone wanting to be healthy are; workout 3x per week (literally anything), move around more than what you are doing now, eat protein with every meal, and look at your worst eating habit and make it slightly better. If people would just master those 4 basic things, it could kickstart you on an amazing path to being healthy. However it is hard for us to do small basic things and not see the instant results, these results compound over time. Everyone want to jump in cold plunge or do a sauna or take creatine, but don't have interest in solving their most basic needs. It's hard work to master small things everyday and it humbling to realize that you are failing at things that should be easy. If you are wanting to make a change in your health start here, get the basics figured out and have the patience to focus on it without seeing the immediate positive results. These small changes will help over time, once you master the basics then start to progress and level up your fitness. Do hard things! Don't worry about optimizing, just get some work done and get started today.

If you’re ready for results it’s time to ditch the health club… There was a time when we got all the exercise we require from our daily activities. But as hunting and gathering lead to farming and eventually the industrialized world we live in today the need for human “labor” has been nearly eradicated. Now ... Most of us have an area in our life we wish we were performing better in. That part of us that doesn’t quite fit into our own skin. Fitness trends come and go and most fall to the wayside for good reason. Most programs fail to produce consistent results. It’s a wonder why so many folks stray away from what is tried and true when it comes to exercise programs? “The rule is: the basics are the basic, and you can’t beat the ...
